Beirut - The Flying Club Cup

There are few people [who don't originate from or live in Europe] who can pull off the sound that Beirut effortlessly achieves. Very European in sound, one would assume they are from France. Imagine my surprise when I found out that they're from Albuquerque. The songs represented on The Flying Club Cup seem to have a life of their own, moving and shifting. Mandolins and accordians weave around each other but never falter. Each song is stripped down, but still has a full sound. One of the best albums of 2007.
