I just yesterday stumbled upon "Ode To Sunshine" by Delta Spirit after a recommendation by CDNOW.com. For once, they did something right. I listened to this album start to finish, and for fear of sounding a little too excited, I have to say that it is possibly the most cohesive and well written album I've ever heard. Delta Spirit's sound is nothing new; more than anything you could just say that they have improved upon an increasingly popular sound. But one thing that I love about this band over others, is that while their influences are accessible, the band does not wear them on their sleeves.
The best way to describe Delta Spirit is to say that they sound as if a very Beatles-influenced Dr. Dog were fronted by Nathan Willett of Cold War Kids, but he were singing more in his range. The songs are brilliant and cohesive and the album overall is an instant classic.
