Andrew Bird (Partial) Discography

For the last several days, I have been able to listen to little other than Andrew Bird. For years, I had liked a couple of his albums, but they never made it to my favorites list. The other day, I found myself wanting to listen to something familiar, but not anything that I listen to with any sort of frequency. Mr. Bird caught my eye and I listened. Now, I can't listen to anything else. Seeing as how his discography contains not only his solo albums, but also his previous endeavor, Andrew Bird & The Bowl Of Fire, I think that to cut it down to a more manageable size is acceptable. Here are his most recent 3 full-lengths and a European tour EP. Enjoy!

Andrew Bird - Noble Beast

Noble Beast is the fifth and newest studio album in Mr. Bird's catalog, similar in size and stature to recent works The Mysterious Production of Eggs and Armchair Apocrypha, but somehow more cohesive and better overall.

As far as creativity goes, many could easily liken Andrew Bird to his fellow midwest contemporary, Sufjan Stevens. Both create sonic landscapes, shifting effortlessly from one style to the next, all the while incorporating lesser-known and underrated musical instruments. Sufjan's instrument of choice is the banjo; Bird's is the violin. This, however, is where the similarities end; they sound nothing alike.

On Noble Beast, Bird harkens back to sounds of old, never limiting himself, layering orchestral strings over latin beats, creating abrasive yet beautiful songs that you find yourself singing long after they end. Noble Beast is a gem.

Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production of Eggs

Andrew Bird is a folk/indie multi-instrumentalist originally from Chicago. Falling somewhere between Sufjan Stevens and The National, Bird has taken his proficiency at not only guitar and mandolin, but also violin and glockenspiel, and created a masterpiece in The Mysterious Production of Eggs. It's hard to not love his candor and sometimes tongue-in-cheek way of wording, which is also reflected in the music. Great album by a great musician.
